Material Institute will host a 4-day event at Botanical with a focus on high school engagement and activities for the main 24 Carrot Garden high schools including Bayview Secondary College, Jordan River Learning Federation High School, Kingston High School, and Montrose Bay High School. The program will offer 6 workshops running concurrently with students opting into a workshop of choice. There would be 2 sessions per day over 3 days allowing for the 4 schools to participate with 80 students at a time (approximately 10-15 students per specialist workshop). The focus will be workshop topic areas with a cross-workshop theme of ecology, innovation and sustainability.
Workshops:
1. Beauty Lab - take home cosmetic product (1 hour)
2. Healthy Foods - native plant snacks and meal preparation (1 hour)
3. Eco dyes - take home textile (1 hour)
4. Ceramics - make an artistic crockery item to contribute to a class set (1 hour)
5. Water filtration - 30 minute challenge to make a substrate water filter to clear dirty water (30 mins)
6. Gardening with MI and Landcare - Planting and gardening at MI and then take home a seedling (30 mins)
