The museum at night, reflecting on the water of Constitution DockHobart is Australia's second oldest city and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery was established there in 1843. The Museum has been in its current building near Constitution Dock since 1863.

Permanent exhibitions include the Antarctic Gallery Islands to Ice, exploring the close relationship between Hobart and Australia's Antarctic exploration.

The Museum is open from 10.00 am - 5.00 pm daily (except Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day). General admission is free.

Note: the Museum is being renovated and will be closed from 12 November 2012 until early in 2013.
