At Gladstone West State School we are trying to embed positive healthy habits for life by establishing fruit and vegie gardens where students will plant, care for, harvest and plan a meal using their produce.

During National Science Week there will be community gardening tips and hints for growing a successful vegie garden – presented by a combination of students and experts, food tasting and recipe sharing.

The project is closely linked with the Science and Health curricula with the long term vision with assisting the tuckshop with their salad produce and having a school ‘Farmer’s Market’ style day where herbs and produce can be sold to continue the our garden gurus.

Students are watching plants grow while taking note of what is needed to care for the different plants and seedlings (sunlight, water, mineral enriched soil etc)
