The Robocup Jr. Qld championships is a robotics competition for school-aged children and an exciting spectator event.
With over 500 young competitors and 800 – 1000 attendees, it is a weekend of robots (and their young builders and programmers) battling it out to be the best performers, champion soccer players, or the fastest rescue robots. These students have been preparing for months for this moment, it’s their time to shine and show the world their engineering marvels.
It’s a visually spectacular event, involving costumes, dance performances, intricate and face-paced robots. Students are driven to work on their robots throughout the weekend, constantly improving and trying to be better than the rest. This includes soldering programming, building, practising and talking tactics. There is plenty to see.
We will also be joined by a number of technology companies who are bringing along their work to show students what a career in robotics and technology looks like. Such companies include CSIRO Data61, Freelance Robotics and Softbank.
A two-day event, on the 10th and 11th of August at the University of Queensland’s ‘UQ centre’. The event is free and runs from 8 am – 4 pm both days with finals held in the afternoon on each day.
