In this hands-on Sound and Aroma Tuning Workshop, multisensory artist Jo Burzynska will guide participants on a sensory journey through the powerful and sometimes surprising synergies between sounds and aromas. Jo will share her own insights from working in sound and olfactory art, as well as exciting new research into sensory correspondences from the fields of psychology, cognitive science and neuroscience. The workshop also includes the opportunity to make your own matches between different perfume and sound materials and discover which of these are personal to you and those we may all share.
This workshop is part of Jo Burzynska’s Osmic Resonance exhibition programme, created from a Culture at Work Art-Science residency. Participants will also be able to experience, Osmic Resonance: an audio-olfactory installation that harnesses sympathetic vibrations between sounds and aromas. In a multisensory chamber, the aesthetic, scientific and therapeutic potential of sensory interactions are explored and experienced through intensifying and shifting entwined sound- and aroma-scapes.
Jo Burzynska is multisensory artist whose parallel backgrounds in sound art and professional wine writing have increasingly converged in the production of art at the intersection of the senses. This regularly combines audition and the chemical senses (taste and olfaction), the interaction between which and its creative application is also the topic of her current interdisciplinary doctoral research at UNSW Art & Design.
Booking essential as places are limited.
