Have you ever wondered what microbat species call your backyard home? Over the past two years, the MEGA Murray-Darling Microbat Project has been investigating which microbat species are found in the SA Murray Darling Basin region. Find out what we learnt through this project and what you can do in the future to help the bats in your backyard.
Led by the South Australian Museum in partnership with Natural Resources South Australian Murray-Darling Basin, University of South Australia and Mid Murray Landcare SA, people across a large part of South Australia borrowed Anabat units and set them up on their properties to record bat calls. It didn’t matter what sort of backyard it was (in Murray Bridge or Mt Barker or out in the bush), microbats were there, proving that bats really are just about everywhere!
What about the mozzies – what have they been up to lately? Citizen scientists have been out in their backyards helping to answer this question through the Mozzie Monitors project. This University of South Australia led project is aiming to better identify disease risks in South Australia. The project team will share with us their findings so far.
This event is delivered in partnership with Natural Resources SA Murray-Darling Basin, Rural City of Murray Bridge, Inspiring Australia, South Australian Museum, University of South Australia, Mid Murray Landcare.
