UNSW School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) has been hosting artist Dr Sarah Jane Moore for the past four years. During this time she has developed works that interweave art, science and Indigenous knowledge and practices. In 2022 she began a graffiti wall on a lab wall, inviting researchers and students to reflect and contribute.
Through this science and art and meeting of salty water and river Sarah Jane has developed a new and different, most magical lens. She holds new ways of seeing, beeing (pun intended) and belonging. Her looking glass is nature based, centred on land, sea, earth and sky and grounded in past present and futures. It is hope filled and full.
The growing marks, tags and worldings have been supported through BEES students, staff and visitors on and through NAIDOC Week and represents an ongoing committment to the support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, histories, researchers, futures and pasts.
