Coominya State School is a small school in a rural town. The senior class, Year 5/6 students, will choose a science topic or experiment that they will develop into an engaging hands on activity for the rest of the school (Prep to Year 4, about 45 students). The topic or experiment will be linked to the school theme of Innovation: Powering Future Industries.

The students will be guided by the following areas: Food, Recycling, Energy, Environment - FREE. Included in their activities the students will be required to create a poster on the possible STEM careers available around their topic; and addressing Science as a Human Endeavour by focusing on Australian people in those fields.

The students will also be required to document their learning using a research log book and creating a written lab report, as the top three presentations will be chosen to enter the STAQ science competition.
