Darwin Festival and MAGNT are partnering again in 2023 to bring Sea of Light to Darwin for 6 days during National Science Week.

Sea of Light (Sea of Light | Patch Theatre) is an illuminated interactive journey of light and imagination. With a UV torch as your paintbrush, participants paint and stencil your own voyage or bioluminescent animals in the Discovery Centre at MAGNT.

Children and families can steer ships that leave glowing paths of light in their wake as they sail across the sea floor or create a floor of fireflies that fade as time steals their lanterns. Sea of Light brings together magical light and a gentle soundscape to create a unique adventure for students, families and children.

Six sessions a day of 45 minutes each will be available to schools and the public to book from Tuesday 15 to Sunday 2 August.

Each session will consist of a 10 minute introduction to light in our world in the MAGNT theatrette presented by a member of MAGNT’s Natural Science team, then 30 minutes of light painting in the Sea of Light installation. Numbers will be capped at a maximum of 30 people per session.

The Sea of Light interactive installation caters best for primary aged students and families, and builds upon the invitation in 2022 for audiences that may not engage in National Science Week in any other way to experience a unique science focused event.
