St John’s National Science Week Celebration, including a showcase from the Canegrowers
Tully. A whole day to celebrate science, involving students from Prep to Year 6 working in mixed aged groups. The day will involve a rotation of engaging, hands-on activities designed to promote critical and creative thinking about this year’s theme – Innovation: Powering future industries.
We have partnered with Canegrowers Tully, who will showcase how advances in technology
are benefitting our local canegrowers. Using virtual reality technology, students will take an interactive sugar journey seeing the growing, milling and refining processes, and sample products from farm to plate.
They will explore technology used in farming including tractors and drones, and learn about environmental management through hands-on activities including soil testing and examining
pest and disease specimens.
Our Year 6 students will lead activities sparking interest in technological advances in other industries. This will be a demonstration of a 3D Printer and opportunity for students to design and print their own creations; an introduction to artificial intelligence and using this in a simulation to clean up our oceans; making exploding space rocks as we consider mining on the Moon, and a taste testing session exploring plant-based food alternatives.
