Science Week at the Glassworks – Live Hotshop Demonstrations and Commentary

  • From
  • Canberra Glassworks
11 Wentworth Avenue, Kingston ACT 2604, Australia

See something SPECTACULAR as we celebrate the International Year of Glass.

Uncover the inner workings of our glassmaking facility as we explore the science of glass in art and our everyday lives. Join Glassworks Artistic Director, Aimee Frodsham, and resident science expert, Jodie Smith, who will answer your burning questions:

  • How are fibre optic cables made?
  • Why do the lenses in our glasses change the way we see?
  • What is a Prince Rupert’s drop? and
  • How is glass made in different colours?

Over the two weekends of National Science Week, Canberra Glassworks will host twice daily demonstrations to answer these questions featuring some of Australia's leading glass artists.

Demonstrations will be suitable for all ages and everyone is encouraged to jump in with their burning glass questions. Booking is not required but capacity is limited.
