Merimbula Wharf Marine Habitat Restoration Project

This exciting science event at Merimbula Wharf on Thursday 17 August will encompass a presentation on underwater forests and macroalgae rehabilitation by Cayne Layton, researcher and lecturer from the University of Tasmania and IMAS.

As well as presentations on the Merimbula Wharf restoration project:

  • Nick Yee description of the science of the project and hoped-for outcomes.
  • David Rowland drone footage and photo montage of images under the Wharf and across transects.
  • John Smythe history of science and culling experiments and development of an urchin fishery.
  • Libby Hepburn citizen science and the Atlas of Life contributing to collaborative local projects.
  • Chris Young restoration of seaweed habitats to support better fishing.
  • Will Marshall Grey underwharf images and invasive species.

An optional seafood lunch (booking required via the Wharf) will be held after the presentations. During lunch there will be live drone footage and a photomontage of biodiversity around the Wharf.
