Reach for the ***Stars***

  • Briars Astronomy Centre and Mount Martha Observatory
450 Nepean Highway, Mount Martha VIC 3934, Australia

Bring your five senses to a highly popular astronomy evening filled with wonder with the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society at our registered observatory at Mount Martha, south east of Melbourne. See the stars, planets and other night sky objects visible at this time of the year through our telescopes. Hear the REALLY BIG questions out there and get to ask any question in the Universe that you might have.

The evening starts indoors with a multimedia talk and Q&A then, weather permitting, moves outside onto the observing field and observatory with the assembled telescopes underneath the night sky.

Please dress appropriately for being outdoors and on a grassy or uneven surface. You may bring a small torch if you wish.

The observatory is marked on Google Maps and on the Melways at map reference 151/E1.

COVID Safe: Online bookings are mandatory, with attendance numbers strictly capped.  However, should COVIDcapacity restrictions ease over time, it is possible that further seats may become available at a later date, so if you miss out initially, check back later or leave your details for the waiting list.

Driving directions: The venue is in regional Mount Martha inside the Briars Historic Park, and is entered on the east side of Nepean Highway. Drive carefully through the park, with the possibility of wildlife on the road after dark. You will travel about 2 km along a sealed road, over three cattle grids, past a visitors’ centre on your left and vineyard on your right, up the hill then straight ahead, with the Shire Nursery on your left, then the observatory is 100 m further along on the left, next door to the Eco House.
