National Science Week will be held in Orelia Primary School in Week 7 of this term (TERM 3). The school theme for National Science Week in 2024 is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
Once again this year we will be having our Annual Science Fair. It is open to all students from Years 3-6. Year 2s are invited to join and prizes will be given for the best Year 2 entries.
Build-a-habitat diorama and exhibition
This term, Year 1 students are learning to write information reports. They are learning about animals, their diet, habitat and external features. In science, they are learning why these animals choose to live in these habitats. As part of Science Week and The Oral Language Festival, Year 1s will each build a habitat using paper and their animal using clay or Lego (Design and Technology). Their final work will be exhibited in their wet area in Week 10. The best diorama will be awarded a special prize.
Oral Language Festival
In collaboration with the Literacy Committee, this years theme is Science based. All classes have started working on their presentation.
Robotics Demonstration
In collaboration with our ICT team, we are very excited to have Gilmore Senior High School here in OPS to demonstrate how robots work. Senior students will get an opportunity to do some hands-on experimenting with these robots. All this will be happening in Weeks 9 and 10.
