Come join us for a time of fun as we celebrate the launch of MicroToons with a stage show, popcorn and interactive science fun that are inclusive for all ages and abilities.
MicroToons is an animated science cartoon on based on a short story written by Dr Rina Fu (Scientist-Author-Artist) and brought to life by people with autism under the mentorship of Red Bird Creative producer, Aaron Welch. Dr Rina will provide feedback on balancing scientific accuracy and creativity of the art-work.
Harnessing the special talents of our budding artist, Dafa (who has autism and is undertaking her work experience at Red Bird Creative), she will design original story characters (e.g. cells and nasty microbes) from pencil sketches to computer graphics. Sam and Lachlan (who also live with autism), have special interests and demonstrated skills in graphical animation. Applying their talents, they will bring these microscopic characters to life as moving cartoons. Aaron and Rina will work with Sam, Lachlan and Dafa to design background sets for rendering and story-boarding. Dr Rina will team up with Manny from Veracity Vibes to compose music and sound effects for the animation.
The three minute long MicroToons animation will be show-cased in a launch event on Monday 9 August, hosted by 4LifeSkills.
The MicroToons Launch will highlight the behind-the-scenes adventure, showcasing the special talents of the team. The night will be fun filled with Dr Rina and her scientist-team running hands-on activities for science, art and technology for all, including people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Sam, Lachlan and Dafa will also share their skills and for others to try out using the technologies they employed to create MicroToons.
It is envisaged that MicroToons will be showcased as part of other educational science workshops in future local and international presentations. We hope to see you at the MicroToons launch event!
