Meet the Scientist Expo

  • - (ACST)
  • Katherine South Primary School
120 Riverbank Drive, Katherine South NT 0850, Australia

Every year our school, Katherine South Primary School, holds a Meet the Scientist science expo. We highlight and explore a wide range of aspects of science, including technology, health, fossils, chemistry and biology.

There is input and support from the wider Katherine community, as we have the local library, St John's ambulance, Indigineous health services, the Royal Australian Air Force, Police and Ranger. Among other health services too, including local MP office.

We provide a free BBQ, making smoothies on a smoothie bike that is powered by pedalling, seeing how heat affects corn kernels and making popcorn and how to make snow cones.

We will be having the Northern Territory School of Music participate in a wonderful musical showcase of different instruments and talking about how soundwaves are produced by instruments, including our voices.

There will be a dino dig for fossils, chemical changes such as making slime and ice cream from milk, in ice and salt, a garden table, a tinker table with technology and mechanics, cutting up a watermelon and pumpkin using only rubber bands, origami and paper plane making competitions, paint/colour mixing art table and looking at a water play station.
