Laser cutting the hidden farm

  • - (AEST)
  • Darling Square Library
Levels 1 and 2, The Exchange, 1 Little Pier Street, Haymarket NSW 2000, Australia

A hands-on experience using microscopes to investigate the hidden nature of Sydney City Farm.

You’ll look close-up at seeds, leaves, insects and soil and take images to turn into a key ring or bag tag. Personalise your design by adding your name and laser cutting onto your choice of coloured Perspex.

Children will be guided to use digital microscopes to investigate material gathered from the farm.

You will learn:

  • Hands-on digital microscope skills
  • Guide to farm biology
  • Adobe and Photoshop and Illustrator introduction
  • Laser cutting introduction

What you will get:

  • Your finished key ring or bag tag
  • Digital images of all your work

Each child will need to bring a USB stick to save all their images.

We think carefully about the suggested age range for our activities and this workshop is only appropriate for children over the age of 8 years.

Parents and guardians are required to stay in the library during the session and are encouraged to stay in the makerspace to engage with the activity alongside their child.

Bookings are essential as places are limited to 10 children per session.
