The fourth annual Great Aussie BioQuest runs during National Science Week, 15-23 August.
This challenge, open to all Australians, draws attention to an urgent aspect of managing our climate change-induced biome - the lack of comprehensive data on biodiversity. It aims to address this problem by engaging people from all walks of life in a competition that is entertaining, locally relevant and inspirational, while gathering valuable biodiversity data. Players participate in The Great Aussie BioQuest (GreatAussieBioQuest.com) through the QuestaGame mobile app, during the National Science Week.
Players submit photographs of plants, animals and fungi, which are verified by experts, with feedback and points sent to the player. The biodiversity data collected will contribute to national and international databases for biodiversity mapping and research.
