Postponed: Force-able: J.E.D.I.s with disabilities

  • -

Postponed due to the ACT COVID lockdown.

Science Alliance is a team of people with disabilities, presenting science for people with disabilities.

The Force is strong with this team, especially now they have an Alliance with ACT Down Syndrome.

This year we will be showing you how to make and use your own light saber.

All you need is

  • a handheld torch
  • coloured cellophane
  • a pool noodle
  • a clear/perspex tube (the same diameter as your torch)
  • Duct tape
  • rubber bands
  • optional glue (in case you have trouble with rubber bands)

All of this can be bought at a hardware store, except the cellophane and rubber bands which are from stationery stores. Each individual item should cost between $2 - $8. However, the clear tube may vary.

Demonstrations of how to make and use the lightsabers are speically modified for the benefit of people with mild to moderate disabilities, particularly low hand-eye coordination, difficulty with fine motor skills, and people who need help with gross motor movement. All other Jedis are most welcome to join us. No Siths.

Join us live on air on Thursday 19 August at 7pm
