Exploring Boonwurrung Seasons

  • - (AEST)
  • Explorers Early Learning - Brighton East
761 Nepean Highway, Brighton East VIC 3186, Australia

Explorers Brighton East is on Boonwurrung land in the eastern Kulin nations. During National Science Week we will be learning about the six Boonwurrung seasons from Jaeden Williams, founder of Biik Bundjil.

During his workshop with our four year old kinder children (AKA the Red Gums) Jaeden will invite the children to join with him as he walks in the footsteps of his ancestors, through the day, and at night, from the coast of Nairm (Port Philip Bay) to the hills: “The stars are the oldest story tellers in the world; they told the Boonwurrung when they could take one emu egg (constellation sitting up) and when they couldn’t (constellation lying down). The stars tell us what month it is; the sun tells us what time it is, and the moon tells us what day it is”.

The children, their parents and educators will have the opportunity to hear about the markers for each season the Boonwurrung looked for which guided how they cared for Country.

Explorers would like to thank ASTA for providing funding through a grant to support our Science Week activities.
