Ever thought about how scientists can contribute to the world besides through academic research? Or thinking of moving into a non-academic role after your PhD or postdoc, but unsure what positions might be right for you or how to navigate the transition?

Careers Outside Academia returns from 6:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday 17 August in the Dimbin-Mil room at The Precinct, Level 2/315 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. The event will feature talks and a discussion panel from industry and government speakers, with complementary food & drinks:

  • Rob Hoelzle: Former Bioinformatician, now Senior Quantitative Analyst @ Clean Energy Transfer Fund. Uses data science skills to analyse the Australian renewable energy market to guide renewables investment decisions.
  • Michelle Hunter: Former Nanotechnology Scientist, now Senior Strategy Consultant @ Monitor Deloitte. Uses creative problem solving to help organisations transform and grow. 
  • James Fraser: Former Neuroscientist turned Core Facility Staff, now Field Application Scientist @ 10x Genomics. Trains and troubleshoots spatial transcriptomics for 10x Genomics customers in Asia-Pacific region.

Talks will be followed by social drinks from 7:00 pm at Netherworld,186 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.
