Bringing together dugong-loving scientists, artists and community members to share knowledge and experiences, and to celebrate connections with these mythical local residents.

Registration includes a 2 hour wildlife cruise on Pumicestone Passage with Ferryman Cruises.

  • Keynote presentation by Dr Janet Lanyon, Australia's leading expert on dugong health and population dynamics
  • Discover how BIEPA's Dugong Diaries Project is harnessing community effort and contributing to real science
  • Pen a Love Letter to the Dugongs
  • Learn what other communities are doing to help protect and conserve dugongs
  • Discuss the need for a more wildlife-friendly Pumicestone Passage
  • Connect with other dugong lovers
  • Simple coffee, tea and biscuits provided

Session 2  |  3:30pm-5:30pm  | Ferryman Cruises

  • Search for dugongs and other passage wildlife
  • Chat with dugong lovers
  • Relax amidst the wonders of Pumicestone Passage
  • Enjoy the company of others who are concerned with the protection of nature on and around Bribie Island
  • Cheese and crackers included. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase on board

Due to the timing of the sessions, organisers recommend participants enjoy brunch prior to the 11:30am start so they are fuelled and ready to go for the day. There will be time to grab a snack if required between Session 1 and 2.

The Bribie Island Dugong Symposium is an initiative of the BIEPA Wildlife Team's Dugong Diaries Project, for National Science Week.
