The National Mineral and Fossil Collections at Geoscience Australia have over 15 000 mineral and 43 000 fossil specimens. More than 600 items are on permanent display in the foyer of the building. There are also exhibits about satellite imaging, bathymetry, and the geothermal system used to heat and cool the building.

The Geological Timewalk is a 1.1 km path through landscaped gardens that denotes the passage of geological time. The length of the path represents the 4600 million years that have passed since the Earth was formed. Large rocks collected from around Australia have been placed along the walk at the point that marks their age.

There is a cafe on site and the library is open to the public.

Geoscience Australia is open weekdays, except public holidays. Admission is free.
