Andamooka Night Skies Tour

We will be hosting a journey through the Andamooka night skies using naked eye astronomy and telescopes to observe the Earth’s Moon, constellations, Jupiter and Saturn.

Kick off National Science Week with an evening under the stars in the Andamooka Opal Fields. We will be hosting a journey through the Andamooka night skies using naked eye astronomy and telescopes to observe the Earth’s Moon, constellations, Jupiter and Saturn.

Did you know that Andamooka is famous for Opalised Fossils? Learn about Karkaroo the Baby Andamooka Plesiosaur and other opalised marine reptiles on an evening tour of the Andamooka Opal Showroom Underground Opal & Mineral Museum.

Fire up your camp oven cooking skills and bush food recipes for the Annual Andamooka Hospital Auxiliary camp oven cooking competition. “Scorpions Shine Like Stars” activity with Arid Recovery – we look at the Scorpio constellation and talk about scorpions (which like opal also glow under UV light).

The Tuckabox Hotel will have delicious soup and take away meals available till 8pm. Other food options include:

  • Donna’s Chicken and Lamb Yiros
  • Sausage Sizzle
  • Mikey’s soft drink stand

There will be art sales and Andamooka Observatory Pop Up Books will be open.
